KSU-LKSKI Collaboration Portal
The KSU-LKSKI Collaboration Portal is a secure online document collaboration tool developed to support participants of the KSU Medical Research Program as they work on shared research projects. Participants can create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. The purpose of the portal is to:
- enhance collaborative knowledge transfer, both locally and internationally
- highlight and share current research activities, best practices, and lessons learned
- promote discussions and collaboration – identifying research questions, planning and undertaking research activities, analyzing and synthesizing results, and identifying methods to effectively communicate results with stakeholders.

A systematic review attempts to collate all empirical evidence that fits pre-specified eligibility criteria in order to answer a specific research question. It uses explicit, systematic methods that are selected with a view to minimizing bias, thus providing more reliable findings from which conclusions can be drawn and decisions made (Antman 1992, Oxman 1993). The key characteristics of a systematic review are:
- a clearly stated set of objectives with pre-defined eligibility criteria for studies;
- an explicit, reproducible methodology;
- a systematic search that attempts to identify all studies that would meet the eligibility criteria;
- an assessment of the validity of the findings of the included studies, for example through the assessment of risk of bias; and
- a systematic presentation, and synthesis, of the characteristics and findings of the included studies.
The overall objective of this course is for participants to lead a systematic review. The information learned in this course will be used by the students to conduct a systematic review in the topic of their choice, with guidance from the course instructors. The course consists of 16 interactive online learning modules. Of the 16 modules, 7 are completed prior to arrival in Canada. During their time in Canada, participants attend weekly systematic review seminars and complete the remaining interactive online modules. The instructors ensure that participants have the skills, support, and resources required to complete the systematic review within the 4 month timeframe.
